Shhhh in the Library

Here we have a fine example of Library music, left over music from the the golden era of TV soundtracks that were never picked up for any show. Back in those days, there were massive music production companies that just had artists play exaggerated music with theme suggestive rhythms and melodies. Then all these assorted tracks would be packed up in thematic records and sold to whoever for TV use. These records are usually really hard to come by because they were never produced for the individual consumer, only the TV production companies. What further adds to the rarity of these records is how the music companies that produced this music simply regarded it as worthless and many of them simply dumped out their their masters for each release to make space in storage warehouses. This particular library is one of the Patchwork Library series, a french production company that was really active during the 1970's to 1980's. The album is Patchwork Orchestra 10 - Children / Sport and was probably made in the early 1970's. Discography is after the break.

Alton Ellis - Rocksteady

Here we've got some classic rocksteady by the father of rocksteady, a song, called, you guessed it, Rocksteady. Rocksteady is a musical form that originated in Jamaica that was somewhere between Ska and Reggae. Rocksteady has obvious ska influences, and the roots of reggae can really be seen in this type of music. This song was essential to the whole genre, blah blah blah. Can't for the life of me find any info about the album this is from. Goddamned shame if you ask me, seeing as he's such a revolutionary musical figure.

King Davis House Rockers - We All Make Mistakes Sometimes

In keeping to the funk, here's another rare selection, this was released under the Verve label in 1967, it's damned groovy. Once again, this is from a singles record, but this is the B-Side if my understanding of Verve's catalogue system is correct. The A-Side is Baby You Satisfy Me, once again, if my understanding of Verve's catalogue system is correct, I cannot find it for the life of me though. The King Davis House Rockers were one of the first names of the group, B.T. Express, who later went on to enjoy some modicum of fame starting in 1975, only to stop making music together in the mid 80's.

Some Soul to start this off.

Here's today's update.

We've got some groovy old soul from Abraham and His Sons, from the year of 1968, This particular gem is called I Can't Do Without you. I have very little information about this group, all I know is that the organ jives well with vocals. Based on cursory research, this was on the Revue label, who also signed on the Chi-Lites at one point. If anyone has any more information about this group or label, I'd be super stoked if you left some comments with some info.
